Corvus Mortuus

In the cacophony of panic and the deafening din
Crows cawed in a chorus and confusion of wings
Roused from their rookery, above river and woods
They whirled in a circle, because they understood

A wretchedness, of dismay, was mortally flailing
Hysteria thriving, in the death throes, of the ailing
The murder together, outraged, as if under attack
But alone in the sky, death was shrouded in black

From a raucousness of dread, of those left alive
A plummeting crow fell, in an un-escapable dive
Crashing to earth, through the trees of the wood
Crashing to earth, but heard, in a sickening thud
